Christmas Parade

We had been in our quirky, down home, small town, Country Christmas Parade. We had so much fun. We brought three of our Boer goats, Daisy, Dahlia  Dandelion along with us. We had decorated our hay trailer with lights, garland & silver bells. We had also put antlers on the goats, they didn't hold up very well, next year we will have to buy sturdier ones.
The streets were lined with people, probably ten deep. All the floats would throw candy to all those watching, so we let our grandchildren throw the candy, they had a blast. The goats actually were very good, of course we had plenty of grain and all the hay they wanted. Will definitely do it again next year!!!!

Kikos

we got two more new goats, they are kiko. Kiko are another type of meat goat, they are a lot more parasite resistant then boer goats.
Their names are Jaalah, which means "wild goat" and let me tell you, it is the perfect name for her.  Jaalah is all white, and Jazmin which is almost as wild, but is more timid or afraid so she runs from us, and she is mostly light brown with some white.

they are not use to being in a pen, their barn was all open.

they are getting comfortable after
being there all day.

Today was their first day out in our field,
they were just checking everything out

Farm Visitors

We have been having a lot of farm visitors recently. Some are just  showing up  and others  drive by and see the goat out in the field and decide to stop. We welcome visitors so we always tell them to come on up the driveway  and see the goats! Most of the time they have children with them so we let them feed the goats!!! win win situation........ kids enjoy it and so do the goats....

Friday, August 27, 2010

Well summer is flying by, August is just about over and the nights are getting cooler and even some of the leaves  are starting to change color.
The kid goats have all settled in and are now use to their new home. They are growing nicely and are able to go into the field with the two larger goats that we gotten before them.
We are still looking for some more kid goats, preferably kiko or kiko/boer cross.
The Guinea Fowl is also getting big and as of now are still in the coop, in about three weeks we will open the door to the coop and let them free range. We will put the goats in the field where the coop is for a couple days before we open that door so they get use to them. Hoping to avoid the goats chasing the guinea fowl.

Eagle

We had an Eagle visit our Farm today, fortunately I had my camera outside with us when I spotted him land in the tree. He is huge, so amazing to see an Eagle. When he landed in the tree it sounded like  one of the limbs on the tree cracked.

The foundation is all formed out and the cement was poured today....It is really amazing how much work goes into setting the forms and getting it all ready to for the cement.
